WWE 2K15 marks the beginning of a "new generation" focused on transforming the franchise into a true wrestling game, rather than simply a "wrestling game featuring WWE Superstars." A new chain wrestling minigame has been implemented to make matches more realistic (current-gen consoles and PC only). Pressing the wrestle button at the start of a match will lock your opponent's neck and elbows. At the start of the match, each opponent presses one of three buttons opposite them to place their opponent in a side headlock, wristlock, or waistlock, resulting in a game similar to rock-paper-scissors. (A headlock is better than a wristlock, a wristlock is better than a waistlock, and a waistlock is better than a headlock.) Whoever wins gets to pin their opponent in this position while both players rotate the right analog stick (spacebar + movement keys on PC) to find the "sweet spot." If the attacker finds it first, they will move, and if the defender finds it first, they will have the advantage. Additionally, the attacking fighter can hit or twist their opponent's limbs, making it difficult for them to find the correct position. This minigame only occurs two or three times during a match and can be disabled through the options menu. Attack speed has returned to normal, and the opponent's punches and attack moves have been improved. Unlike in previous games, stars do not rise immediately after hitting the ground or being hit. Depending on their stamina, they can sometimes remain on the ground for several seconds.
